A packed bed consisting of 1.96 kg of solids of density 2.8 g cm-3, is contained in a cylindrical vessel of 10 cm internal diameter, and the bed height is 20 cm.
The volume of the cylinder that is occupied is 1570 ml and the volume of 1.96 kg of these solids is 700 ml.


The porosity (i.e. the same as the voidage) inside the packed bed is (-):

  a) 0.554
b) 0.773
c) 0.446
d) 0.227
Note, do remember to work out voidage (porosity) and not solid concentration!
